Following from yesterday’s blog entry (http://www.marinesweddingtips.co.uk/2011/10/10/10-biggest-mistakes-couples-make-when-planning-their-wedding-part-1/), here’s part two of the top 10 biggest mistakes couples make when planning their own wedding.
Classic Mistake No.4: Understimating the time it takes to plan your wedding:
It takes on average 300 hours the plan a wedding, or 37 days (based on 8 hours a day).
That’s a lot of time, and many weekends and evenings spent doing nothing else but working on your wedding. If you’re a busy couple with demanding careers and a hectic social life, assess very quickly if you’re not better off recruiting a planner for helping you plan part or the whole of your wedding.
Otherwise, you both (yes, BOTH) need to accept you’ll be spending a lot of your spare time preparing your big day so review your social calendar accordingly!
Classic Mistake No.5: Going for the cheapest deal
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
I always get annoyed when I hear people saying that wedding suppliers will try to rip you off. This industry is too competitive for anyone to take advantage to be honest.
Yes, you should always get several quotes from various suppliers, but please compare them carefully. I’ve heard about brides who only got half of the expected flowers delivered, or where only a few members of the band showed up, or where the DJ showed up without all the equipment, etc. So as said, if a deal seems incredibly cheap, then it might be safer to move away.
Classic Mistake No.6: Hiring a supplier without meeting them
There are two reasons for this. First, a good website can make pretty much anyone look good; yet, it doesn’t mean they’re experienced of good enough for you. Second, the chemistry between you and your supplier can be an essential part of a successful result. If you’re too busy for a face to face meeting, then a Skype discussion or even a phone call is a must!
The final part of our 10 classic mistakes will be listed on tomorrow’s blog. Bye bye for now…!
