Having your hair and make-up done on your wedding day is a moment many brides enjoy and look forward to. To get the best results out of it:
1. Use a trusted professional, either recommended to you by someone you know or by your planner. Don’t pick someone just because you like their website. Personally,
I like working with Antonia at Elle Au Naturel (http://www.elleaunaturel.com) and Carolanne (http://www.carolannearmstrong.com)
2. Make the most of your trial session. Be open with the professional you’re considering hiring by telling them what you like, don’t like and are looking
for as well as telling them the type of wedding you’re having. If the trial session doesn’t deliver what you’re looking for, talk it through with the
supplier and if needed, look for another supplier. They might have the right skills but not the right personality and style for you.
3. Whenever you see a hair style or make up detail you like in a magazine, cut it and stick it onto a mood board, and show it to the professional at your trial session.
4. Ask for advice! You know your skin and hair much better than anyone else so ask for advice in dealing with specific issues to look your best on your big day.
5. Allow 1h30 minutes per person for hair an make up on the day so if you and your bridesmaids are getting ready together, make sure you leave sufficient time for
it (or hire 2 or 3 stylists to work at the same time)
6. Make sure there is a big mirror and great day light in the room you’re in for your trial session, as well as a table large enough for the make-up and hair stylist
to put all his/her products.
7. Make sure there are enough big mirrors in the room you’re getting ready on your big day. A make-up and hair professional recently told me she’d had to work using
mirrors placed inside a wardrobe at a recent wedding, which as you can imagine was far from ideal for the professional and the bride!
8. Make sure your make-up and hair stylist coordinates his/her timings with your photographer if you’re having photos taken as you’re getting ready. She needs
to know when the photographer wants you ready by, and schedule her day accordingly.
9. Please have clean hair for your trial and on the wedding day itself, which will allow the hair stylist to get some root lift in the hair.
10. Wear white or ivory for both the trial and on your wedding day since it reflects light the same way as your wedding dress will, which is important for your
make-up.
